A’  v  SHEFFIELD ’G’

10.01.2010

The worst winter conditions for some three decades tended to dominate the approach to this round of fixtures, travel difficulties being augmented in our case by intermittent absence of water due to frozen mains.   All credit to the opposition for their fortitude in declining a postponement, which went sadly unrewarded when we finished 25 imps ahead for a 13 - 7 victory.

The first round (which was to prove our best) gave us a 20 imp lead, 15 of which were eroded in the second session, before we added a further 4 imps in round three for a slender 9 imp overall lead.

It was with some relief that we were able to widen the gap further rather than surrender the lead.

Tony & Lynda marginally outpointed Raymond & Shirley in two rounds, but fell away in the others, whilst Mick & Brian were steaming well ahead of John & Joan, whose catering surpassed their play.

For the visitors the captain and his partner at table 1, and their colleagues at table 4, fared best.
